Take that sabbatical

There are things we often wish and never get around to doing. And this article came a step closer towards giving options for a recharge. Although we in India are a far way from getting over the fear of layoff / taking a break( working hard is a part of our genes maybe!)- am sure there are more than a few options that we can take that would help us grow individually and be better team players too when we return to work. Just think!

Five S

There has been a lot of noise where I work, on how 5S will help us become more efficient. As with most buzzwords, what this stands for is simple ( Be organised and keep your workplace neat ). But I think this mostly applies to a factory wherein a worker needs easy and fast access to his tools. A knowledge worker might not really need such a training. But, as with all corporate trainings - people are resources and they need to be trained. Would they ever appreciate the difference between learning and training ?

Change

Came across this wonderful quote in a book by Peter senge - "People do not resist change, they resist being changed". And thats where a leader steps in - he/she has the vision to know what change needs to happen and then creates an atmosphere where people change of their own volition. Sound simple - and it is - for a natural leader!

What differentiates a good technology from bad? Is it about the user experience only or does it delve into the developer's mind, too. Finally , should we prefer great ( and expensive ) technology to the workable but cheap one?
